"If you don't know your options,
you don't have any."
Roberta Scaer, Author

Julie Keon created one-of-a-kind prenatal classes to offer an alternative to traditional prenatal classes. Hearing comments like, “Prenatal classes are boring” and “a waste of time,” motivated Julie to change the way people viewed childbirth education. By combining her training/ education, professional experience and common sense, Julie has developed a course, which will realistically prepare couples for the journey of birth and new parenthood. Julie’s “tell-it-like-it-is” teaching style, sense of humour and extensive experience and knowledge make these classes a must for expectant families in Ottawa and in the Ottawa valley.

Classes are kept small (max. of 6 couples) so that each couple receives individual attention and so that the format can be adjusted to the needs of the class. This also allows you to begin building your new community by networking with others.

Class Topics Include:

The Process of Birth * The Impact of Fear and Worry * Coping with Pain * Comfort Measures * Creating Your Birthing Experience * The Compassionate Use of Drugs and Epidurals * Giving Birth by Cesarean * Unexpected Outcomes * Breastfeeding * Postpartum Adjustment * Baby Proofing Your Marriage/Relationship * Your Amazing Newborn *

The feedback received from past class participants has been very positive and encouraging:

"Your classes helped me decide on a med-free birth and reduced my fears about labour!"

"I really enjoyed the class. I feel much more confident going into labour and it was so nice to see a positive approach to birth and the pain involved."

"Julie was extremely knowledgeable and told things in an open and honest manner~ no sugar-coating which was welcomed!"

"Good material, great resources/references. Instructor had a great sense of humour and kept material interesting!"

“You were able to bring my anxiety levels down A LOT!!”

“Thank you so much for the informative childbirth seminars. Your level-headed approach was greatly appreciated. We are ready to make informed decisions and to accept reasonable interventions without blaming ourselves for something that may turn out to be beyond our control. If the birth goes well, I feel ready to face the challenges. Before this course, I thought I was automatically better off with the drugs. Now, I have reason to believe that I can manage the normal pain of labour.”

“Before registering for the Mother Nurture prenatal class, I was afraid of the birthing process.  Thanks to Julie's friendly and conversational style of teaching, I not only know what to expect but I am looking forward to giving birth!  The class included relaxation techniques, labour positions, sharing fears, debunking myths, up-to-date birthing videos, and a discussion of unexpected outcomes and post-natal care.  The role of fathers was recognized and Julie ensured that partners got to participate fully.  Thanks to the open and secure environment that Julie created, members of my prenatal class have kept in touch since the class ended. Thanks, Julie!”
