** Please note: Breastfeeding groups have been discontinued for the time being. **

Julie felt that it was crucial to have a specific group for breastfeeding mothers who could meet monthly and offer each other support and encouragement, as well as, share the highlights and disappointments of breastfeeding.

Meeting with other breastfeeding mothers provides the support new moms need and validates the choices they are making as mothers. This is especially important when family members are pressuring them to stop breastfeeding at a certain point.

The groups are FREE and open to all breastfeeding mothers. It is a non-judgmental environment where mothers can learn skills and ideas from other breastfeeding mothers who might be further down the breastfeeding road than themselves. Julie is available to answer questions, reassure new mothers and provide valuable resources. All mothers are welcome even if a mother isn’t experiencing problems. Sometimes just knowing that you are not alone in the struggles and triumphs of breastfeeding allows for the breastfeeding relationship to continue.

Encouraging and helping mothers to breastfeed exclusively as long as possible creates healthy babies and healthy mommies, which in turn leads to healthier communities.

Mothers are invited to attend either of the group (s) even before their babies arrive. Attending a breastfeeding group prenatally to observe, ask questions and normalize the experience will help breastfeeding get off to a good start.

Julie offers two FREE breastfeeding groups each month:

Cobden Site: 1st Wednesday of each month at the Whitewater-Bromley Community Health Centre from 10:30am-noon.

Petawawa Site: 3rd Wednesday of each month at The Diaper Service (between Kevin’s Flowers and Subway on Victoria Avenue) from 10:30am-noon.

Please Note: These groups are open to expectant mothers and breastfeeding mothers with nurslings. Please find care for older siblings during this hour and a half.
